Then sell the oil to your own company at the tax free price. The church is supposed to be doing fundraising by selling oil but making zero profit, while someone else is laughing all the way to the bank. What a Scam!!! No wonder Jesus whipped the people who were doing business in the church. In the temple he found those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons, and the moneychangers at their business. And making a whip of cords, he drove them all, with the sheep and oxen, out of the temple; and he poured out the coins of the money-changers, and overturned their tables. And he told those who sold the pigeons, "Take these things away; you shall not make my Father's house a house of trade." {John 2:14-16 RSV}

The churches of today are engaged in money making using religion as an excuse.

Wall Street ends 2007 on a down note

The dollar rose against most major currencies, while gold slipped.

The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies fell 7.41, or 1.09 percent, to 673.16.

Meanwhile, chip maker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. late Thursday said its fourth-quarter net loss widened, but the loss was smaller than Wall Street predicted. AMD surged 73 cents, or 11.5 percent, to $7.07.

IBM rose $2.30, or 2.3 percent, to $103.40 on its strong forecast.

Washington Mutual rose $1.09, or 8.8 percent, to $13.55. Many investors, in anticipation of an even bigger fourth-quarter loss, had driven the savings and loan's stock sharply lower Thursday.

Pneumonia launched musical career of Kay Starr

During the middle 20th century, the name Kay Starr was well-known in Oklahoma. From the late 1930s into the late 1960s she one of the best signers in the nation. Oklahomans were proud to claim her. Kay Starr was born Katherine LaVerne Starks on July 21, 1922 in Dougherty located along the Washita River in the Chickasaw Nation in Tishomingo County. Her father was Harry Starks a full- blooded Iroquois Indian. Her mother Annie was Irish. When she was three years old, her parents moved to Dallas where her father installed sprinkler systems in buildings. During the depression, her mother raised chickens in a hen house behind their home. It was in Dallas that Katherine began singing at the age of nine to the chickens as they sat on their roosts. Her parents paid little attention to their daughter's singing until an aunt recognized her talent.

Budget Plan Would Raise Low-Income Assistance

The governor's proposal would take $12 million, over two years, in federal money not being used for the state's welfare program, and use it to help increase the money available for child-care subsidies.

The proposal, which is embedded in Kaine's two-year, $78 billion budget that must be approved by the General Assembly, would be the program's first significant increase in funding since 2001, according to state records. The extra money is available because Virginia's welfare population is smaller than projected.

"These are people who work, who want to work, and the governor wants to do anything he can to help them," said Gordon Hickey, a spokesman for Kaine (D).

But some Republicans in the House of Delegates question whether the state, in tight budget times, should expand programs that will require continual funding.
